With a good oral hygiene routine, this treatment that can be effective for a number of years and helps to prevent further deterioration of a tooth. Cavities form when plaque builds up on the teeth this allows the bacteria to attack the teeth, or having a very acidic diet or drinks which then erodes the outer layer of the tooth (known as enamel). If left untreated, cavities can deepen, increasing the likelihood of infections occurring inside the tooth and requiring further treatment. We are a very preventative practice and we’d rather see you a little more often to spot problems as they occur rather than see you infrequently and be dealing with large, expensive and likely painful problems.
Fillings are used to ‘fill’ the cavities, providing strength to the tooth and reducing the harmful effects of decay. Fillings can be metallic or ceramic (which are tooth-coloured). The choice of filling usually depends on where in the mouth it is being placed and its cost, but at Cygnet House we mainly provide white fillings which adhere to the tooth and Mitchell enjoys using his dental technician based skills to make them as lifelike as possible. We believe we are the only practice in the area with Ozone technology to ensure the tooth is bug free before its refilled and we also use “air-abrasion” to clean the cavity prior to filling it. This is similar to microscopic sand blasting of the cavity edges and leaves the cavity super clean and microscopically rough, helping to ensure our fillings don’t drop out and the colour edges blend in beautifully.
Filling treatment is relatively quick and comfortable. We use an expensive local anaesthetic to numb the affected area, improving your experience in the dental chair. We are told we are excellent at performing painless injections.
Once the filling material has bonded to your tooth it will be shaped, smoothed and polished to feel, look and perform as closely to your natural teeth as possible, sometimes even better than your natural teeth.
Keeping up a good oral hygiene routine and visiting our dentists and hygienists regularly are essential factors in preventing cavities and avoiding decay.
